nonPareil Institute was founded in 2008 by two fathers of sons with autism spectrum disorders (ASD).  They noticed that their sons had a natural affinity to technology in spite of their challenges related to ASD. They wondered if adults with ASD could learn to create technology products with the goal of employment.After months of training several adults with ASD in the kitchen of one of the founders, they opened nonPareil Institute’s first office in 2010 with eight students. In less than two years, nonPareil has grown to include more than 83 adults with ASD. Of these, three are now full-time employees and twelve are part-time employees of nonPareil. These adults with ASD have created three apps currently for sale in the iTunes store and have uploaded several maps and campaigns for popular multiplayer online games.The creation of apps, video games, film and other technology products requires more than just knowledge of technology. At nonPareil, students learn the skills necessary to work in teams with a common goal. These skills carry over into daily life and are not applicable only in the workplace.nonPareil hopes to create campuses where adults with ASD can train, work, and live, if they so choose.
