Before Sea Turtle Recovery received a building in December, 2016, all stranded sea turtles were stabilized if they were stranded, but they were transported out of the state for long term care.  This left other states with over crowded rehabilitation centers trying to make room for even more endangered sea turtles. Sea Turtle Recovery received its first 11 sea turtles right after opening its doors.  It is now able to hold approximately 30 turtles depending on their size.  Not only does STR take New Jersey sea turtles, but they also take in sea turtles from other groups that have reached capacity.  STR educates the public and works hard to ensure the rehabilitation of their sea turtles and to save the future of this species!
