Southwest Community Services, Inc.

Our mission is to provide services that empower individuals with diverse disabilities to maximize their development and independence.

Since 1971, Southwest Community Services, SCS has provided the highest quality services and programs to individuals with disabilities. SCS, a community based program, provides five core services to over 350 children and adults with various disabilities. The common thread between all of these programs is the provision for the social, emotional, and vocational well being of its consumers; encompassing individuals with mental illness, developmental disabilities, and physical disabilities, the vision to empower lives through positive outcomes guides the organization.

Five core programs provide services to 350 individuals:

Community Enterprises Behavioral Health

Psychosocial rehabilitation and community support for persons with mental illness are provided through community integration, clinical and vocational services; psychological      assessments, counseling and therapy; and life skills training. 

Community Employment Services (CES)

CES offers programs that develop community employment skills, provide work mobile units, and support community job placements. 

Developmental Training

Vocational, work training, life skills development, and case management services for persons with mild/moderate developmental disabilities are provided through Opportunities Unlimited. Talents, Abilities, and Possibilities is an active day program for adults with profound developmental disabilities.

SCS Phoenix Center – Mokena, IL

The Phoenix Center provides therapeutic rehabilitative services to children and adults with neuro-motor dysfunction, developmental delays, and traumatic injuries. Using cutting edge technology, Suit Therapy and Intensive (Suit) Therapy, once available only in Europe, are offered at the Phoenix Center.

THISAbility Enterprises

This program offers a series of vocational training programs to enhance the employability of individuals with disabilities. Certified training for janitorial, food service, forklift operation, and horticulture/landscape services are offered.

Governed by a volunteer Board of Directors who are representatives of business, education, human services fields and family members, SCS receives funding from the Illinois Department of Human Services, United Way of Metropolitan Chicago, civic groups, foundations, and private donations. SCS is CARF accredited.
