OUR CAUSE PARTNER:
Brooklyn Volunteer Lawyers Project
The VLP works to make the legal system accessible to low-income Brooklyn residents through the pro bono involvement of the private bar.
Established in 1990, the Brooklyn Volunteer Lawyers Project, a 501(c)(3) non-profit, has maintained as its objective the practical realization of justice for the poor. Through the pro bono commitment of the private bar, the VLP solves civil legal problems affecting people’s fundamental rights. The VLP works to use the legal system to help people regain dignity and control over their lives. Through the VLP, pro bono attorneys from the private bar have provided critical legal assistance to thousands of individuals and families from Brooklyn’s poorest neighborhoods. Each VLP program has been established by identifying unmet legal needs in the community. The VLP’s primary referral areas are Family Law, Consumer Law, Foreclosure Intervention and Elder Law.
